About me

Hello!! And welcome to Freedom Nutrition and Wellness. I am SO glad you're here. I know there are countless nutrition providers offering services, so I’m honored you have considered me for your care.

My name is Ashley Smith and I am a registered dietitian in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. I provide one-on-one nutrition coaching for those struggling with nutrition overwhelm (SO much nutrition noise out there), gastrointestinal symptoms, hormonal issues, exercise performance, and general health concerns. I am extremely passionate about helping people find freedom in their relationship with food so that they can invest their time and energy into things that truly matter and eat in a way that is fueled by a desire for nourishment, not punishment or restriction.

I graduated with both my bachelor's degree and master's degree from Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma in nutritional sciences. After graduating and completing my dietetic internship (and RD board exam), I worked at a local Christian counseling center primarily working with clients with eating disorders and disordered eating. After about two years, I realized it was time to go out on my own and I started my own private practice in January of 2018. Since then, I have had two children and they are such a gift to me. Balancing motherhood and owning a business has been tricky, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to flex my brain in a different way and support others as they heal their relationship with food and their bodies and as they pursue holistic health.

My philosophy on healthful eating is that no foods are off limits—truly all foods belong in a healthful and nutritious diet. Dose and frequency matter. I believe our mental health is just as important as our physical health (and actually impacts our physical health) and that sometimes we eat food that nourishes us physically, and other times eat food that nourishes us emotionally. Both are important. I also believe God created our bodies incredibly wise and with the innate ability to regulate a lot of processes (including weight) and to communicate with us when something is off. Cravings and symptoms can be a way for our body to communicate that it needs something. We just sometimes need help learning to listen or understand our symptoms. I believe our natural food supply has SO many nutritional benefits and when we cut out certain food groups because of calories/carbs/sugars/etc our physical (and mental) health suffers. My goal is to propel and free you up to re-explore wellness through nourishment.
