Hello!! And welcome to Freedom Nutrition and Wellness (previously the Donut Eating Dietitian blog). I am SO glad you're here.
My name is Ashley Smith and I am a registered dietitian in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. I do one-on-one nutritional coaching for those struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, and general health concerns. I am extremely passionate about helping people find freedom in their relationship with food so that they can invest their time and energy into things that truly matter.
I graduated with both my bachelor's degree and master's degree from Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma (THE best school--whoop whoop!) in nutritional sciences. After graduating and completing my dietetic internship (and RD board exam), I worked at a local Christian counseling center. After about two years, I realized it was time to go out on my own and start my own private practice. I had GRAND plans for growing my business, but the Lord had other plans. Just a little over a month into starting my own practice, I found out I was pregnant. What an incredible and beautiful blessing my little boy has been! I took a short maternity leave and went back to seeing clients part-time both in-person and virtually. But as time went on, I realized that going full-time virtual was simply best for our family and season of life. I am incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to stay at home with our babe. J
My philosophy on healthful eating is that no foods are off limits—truly all foods belong in a healthful and nutritious diet. I believe our mental health is just as important as our physical health (and actually impacts our physical health) and that sometimes we eat food that nourishes us physically, and other times eat food that nourishes us emotionally. Both are equally important. I believe God created our bodies wise and good. What I mean is that I believe He created them equipped to guide us towards healthful decisions without needing nutrition labels, “portion control”, or other food rules. And He created bodies of all shapes and sizes that are equally good and able to do the things He has called us to do. So as a result, I come from an Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size Perspective (check out my blog if you’re wondering what that means).
My blog comprises of yummy recipes, meal ideas, intuitive eating topics, nutrition misconceptions, glimpses of my life, and eating disorder recovery. I hope that as you read it, you are encouraged and inspired to live a free, full, and delicious life!
